NDEA Government Relations Commission

The Government Relations Commission (GRC) is comprised of 14 members, most of who are appointed by the NDEA President.  The Commission is responsible for directing the government relations activities of the Association.  The GRC provides information and training for members on political involvement and lobbying, specifically grassroots activities.

The GRC is the primary driver of the legislative agenda and legislative program that is eventually reviewed and approved by the NDEA Board of Directors and the Representative Assembly.  The legislative agenda states NDEA's strong commitment to children and public education.  The legislative program includes issues that promote the economic and professional well-being of our members and strong support for public education.  Remember, all education decisions are political decisions!

The GRC oversees the candidate interview process and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors for candidate recommendations and contributions.  These candidates are recommended by members -- people who do what you do everyday - members from around the state who volunteer to serve on interview teams and work through the recommendation process. The GRC helps coordinate efforts of NDEA-PACE and NEA's Fund for Children and Public Education.

The Commission implements a plan to ensure each local association has a GR committee and a GR contact in every building.  The plan also includes member contacts for each legislative district.  If you are interested in serving on an interview team or helping elect education-friendly candidates, contact your local GR chair or president.

Cooperation by the GRC and the NDEA Congressional Contact Team results in effective lobbying of our U.S. congressional delegation on national education issues important to our members.
