NDEA UniServ Position Open
The North Dakota Education Association is soliciting an energetic, enthusiastic, and highly motivated applicant for a UniServ staff position headquartered in the Bismarck office. At least three years of successful teaching experience in public schools is preferred, but other relevant experience will be considered. Candidates must hold a valid drivers license and be willing to travel extensively within regions of North Dakota. This work requires frequent evening and weekend work. NDEA UniServ Job Description
It shall be the duty of the staff person in this position to render services to locals and the state association within the policies and procedures of the North Dakota Education Association under the direction and authority of the NDEA executive director.
Program and service priorities shall be established by the NDEA executive director, but major UniServ responsibilities shall include the following:
I. MEMBERSHIP PROMOTION
A. Assist local associations with a systematic program of membership promotion, retention and recruitment.
B. Help organize new affiliates.
C. Maintain a high visibility for the UniServ program through building visits and attendance at local meetings.
D. Recruit and organize ESP members into existing locals or separate locals.
II. NEGOTIATIONS AND CONTRACT MAINTENANCE
A. Serve as consultant and provide training and coordination to locals as they develop proposals and strategy.
B. Assist locals in crisis organizing.
C. Promote NDEA goals and objectives in negotiations.
D. Assist locals in contract maintenance.
III. MEMBER RIGHTS
A. Represent and advise members and locals in member rights issues.
B. Serve as a liaison between members and the NDEA legal program.
C. Assist in the processing of grievances.
D. Maintain complete files on member rights cases.
E. Train local leaders in member advocacy/member rights.
IV. ORGANIZATIONAL HEALTH
A. Serve as consultant to local leaders and provide training and programs to build locals.
B. Assist locals in the development and maintenance of a public relations program.
STATE AND NATIONAL PROGRAMS
A. Assist in facilitating the delivery of instructional and professional development programs to locals or groups of locals.
B. Assist locals in reaching NDEA's political and legislative goals.
C. Represent and promote state and national policies and programs to members.
D. Assist with the Government Relations program by promoting and maintaining local involvement in legislative lobbying efforts.
VI. WELFARE OF THE ASSOCIATION
A. Help locals participate fully in the democratic nature of the Association.
B. Assist as assigned by helping other staff, working in crisis situations, conducting workshops and clinics, and facilitating conventions.
C. Take part in NDEA/NEA training.
D. Undertake state responsibilities as assigned by the executive director.
