ESEA (NCLB) Reauthorization Information/Flexibility Waiver - We are not sure when reauthorization discussions will continue. Rumor has it that reauthorization will not occur until after the 2014 ESEA 100% proficiency deadline. So what happens if schools do not reach 100% proficiency by 2014? No one is sure so the state applied for the ESEA Flexibility Waiver Sept. 6, 2012. Click here for more information about the waiver!
Common Core State Standards Initiative - North Dakota State Superintendent, Dr. Wayne Sanstead, approved the Common Core Standards in Mathematics and English/Language Arts in June of 2011. The new content standards will become effective July 1, 2013, after which all local school districts and the state's assessment system must be fully aligned to these standards. Assessment of the Common Core Standards is anticipated to begin in the 2013-2014 school year. Click here for more information about the Common Core Standards in the state.
How will the Common Core Standards be assessed? Currently the state is looking at two possible entities from which they will select one: PARCC and Smarter Balance.
